While the process isn’t as precise as waterjet cutting, it is more cost-effective when cutting steel plate and materials up to 6" thick.
What is Plasma Cutting?
Plasma cutting is an electrical process that works with conductive materials like steel and other specialty metals. Plasma forms when gases are heated, they become ionized and electrically conductive. This same process happens in a plasma cutting machine when a gas, such as oxygen, nitrogen, or shop air, is forced through a nozzle. The external power supply of the plasma machine sends an electric current to the gas flow to ionize it, creating a plasma arc. The arc cuts the material by melting it and blowing the molten metal away.
